Pat, my promo 45 for this, which states, and is in fact mono, only has "Spill The Wine" on one side of it. (The stock 45 flip, "Magic Mountain", also appears on the flip side of my promo 45.) The "Spill The Wine" side of my promo 45 states a listed time of (3:59), but has an actual time of (4:05). The database currently states that promo copies for this ran (4:03) and (4:51). Do you perhaps own a different promo 45 for this, which includes the long/short "Spill The Wine" versions? Just for the record, both of my commercial 45 copies, which state "stereo" on the label, but are in fact mono, actually run a second longer than their listed (4:51).

Jim, the (4:51) comment came from I believe Bill Cahill who says that the dj stereo 45 was the longer version while the mono was the shorter.

Jim, this does not answer your question, but I do know that some of the commercial 45s were indeed true stereo (4:51) so I wouldn't be surprised if there were different promos too.

My promo copy, like Jim's, is mono and has a listed time of 3:59 but an actual time of 4:05. Deadwax info reads K14118 70-L-1276A-1A MONO. A little ways away it looks like the number 11 is machine stamped in the dead wax as well.

Add mine to the list of promos that are 3:59 (4:05). If
there was a promo with the long version on it, I've never seen one. My stock copy, like Jim's says stereo, but is in fact mono & runs 4:51. Edited by Hykker |

Add one more hash mark to the 3:59 mono DJ tally.
I bought three different pressings in my local stores in a quest to find a quiet stock copy at the time the song was a current: 1. Plastic Products vinyl pressing. States "Stereo" but plays mono (as does the "Magic Mountain" flip side.) Deadwax "70 L-1276-1F". Came in a generic white sleeve. Crackle City. 2. ARP vinyl pressing. The only ARP-pressed MGM 45 I ever encountered. States "STEREO" and plays stereo; ditto for "Magic Mountain." Deadwax: "K14118 70-L-1276-1A STEREO"... machine-stamped "EX"... machine-stamped "12"... hand-etched "ARP". Came in a title sleeve. Crackle City (of course...it's an ARP.) 3. Monarch styrene pressing. States "STEREO" and plays stereo, as does the "Magic Mountain" flip. Deadwax: "70-L-1276-1C STEREO", Monarch logo, delta number "80171". Came in a title sleeve. No surface noise; quest ends. About that title sleeve: the K 14118 single number is not printed on either side, but the "70L 1276" / "70L 1277" matrix numbers are! Edited by Yah Shure |

The first I ever encountered the DJ 45 edit in stereo was when the promo-only, blue vinyl Radio Free War LP (United Artists/Far Out SP-103) arrived in July, 1974. "Spill The Wine"'s listed time on this LP is (3:59); actual time is (4:03).
