My commercial 45 for this is mono, has a listed time of (3:29), but an actual time of (3:33). I'm thinking the 45 may have been sped up, since my actual time is still several seconds shorter than the mono "45 version" times currently shown in the database.

The 45 in mono has a more audible organ part and much more bass than the Stereo LP version. Atlantic kept it available on the Oldies Series 45 singles to the end of their availability. Fade is also different.

After listening to the 45 versions that I have of "Rainy Night In Georgia" on a few Rhino sets, I detect a bit of a glitch at both the (3:15) and even more pronounced at the (3:22) mark. Is anybody else here aware of this?

I have that version on the Time-Life "Sounds of the Seventies - 1970 Take Two" disc, and I don't hear any glitches in that range, but can listen more carefully if you want -- can you describe the glitches? The (3:22) mark comes when he's repeating "rainy rainy rainy"...during which "rainy" do you hear the issue?

Eric, apparently the glitches are only on RHINO issued CD's...

It's right between the first and second "rainy" in that part of the song. It just sounds weird, like a problem with the master tape. I can only speak to the Rhino CDs, since I don't have that Time-Life CD. |

This is not the first time Rhino seemed to have gotten a defective tape but used it anyway. "Dead Skunk" on one of the "Have A Nice Day" CDs has a really bad dropout mid-song.
I wrote Rhino (no email back then) asking about this and got a vague reply stating that this defect was on the master & every copy of the song has this. (?) |

The tape glitches are not present on my 3 45 pressings. One is an original on Cotillion, the other 2 are Atlantic Oldies Series 45 reissues. All 3 have the same deadwax information indicating the same stampers used.

Listening to the new Complete Reprise and Cotillion Singles collection the fade is very quick on the mono version, is that the difference? Runs 3:31 |
