My commercial 45 has a listed time of (2:55), but an actual time of (2:48). Since all of the many mono and stereo CD versions for this song currently in the database are so consistently either (2:52) or (2:53), I stopwatched it a second time, to be extra sure - it is definitely (2:48); perhaps the 1964 45 was sped up.

jim, you are correct regarding the pitch....my commercial
45 issued as philips 40207 states the run time on the label as 2:55 but actually runs 2:49 and you need to pitch up the cd version to match the vinyl 45 speed..... Edited by edtop40 |

I wonder if the slower pitched stereo CD appearances of Dusty Springfield's "Wishin' and Hopin'" are reflective of the LP speed? Can anyone confirm?

The original stereo lp was rechanneled. I have the stereo LP in storage so it is not easy for me to get to at the moment, and I can't recall how the song sounded on there, but my guess is the true stereo versions represent the song at its original recorded speed and the LP may likely be sped up like the single.

The UK Philips 45 is slower. The US Philips is sped up. This tune was not Stereo until the Taragon Records sync job.

To Kent:
I think you are confusing "Wishin' & Hopin'" with the "I Only Want To Be With You" sync job. "Wishin' & Hopin'" first appeared in true stereo in the USA on a Polygram reissue 45 but may have apeared in the UK prior on a comp. Andy |

I always thought that "Wishin' And Hopin'" was only released as a 45 in the
U.S. and Canada in 1964, not the U.K., for several reasons. Songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David were initially unsuccessful in convincing the always-opinionated Dusty on the idea of issuing the track as a single. But the "connected" duo were able to garner some momentum for the track, via some DJ airplay as an LP cut, which prompted Philips U.S. to issue it as a 45. Just as it was hitting here, "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" was her current UK 45, which prompted the Merseybeats to quickly record/issue a cover version 45, which almost hit the UK Top 10. So I'm a bit confused about Kent's referring to his UK 45 copy, unless was it "re-issued" there at a later date, of course. |

Confused the two songs. My middle 1970's Philips Double Hit reissue 45 of "Wishin' & Hopin'"is mono. Is the Time Pieces reissue 1980's 45 Stereo?
