Does anyone have the Chris Montez Call Me: The A&M Years import CD (Universal/Polydor 9833600) who can tell me if it contains the correct hit single versions of Montez's Top 40 hits: "Call Me", "There Will Never Be Another You", and "Time After Time"? If this disc doesn't have the correct versions, is anyone aware of a CD that might have them?

Eric:

According to the database, none of the three Top 40 hits I cited have appeared on a U.S. CD release in their true 45 version form... "Call Me" is missing some live audience overdubs; "There Will Be Another You" is missing some handclap overdubs; and "Time After Time" repeats the verse "and time after time" two extra times at the end of the song. These songs have always appeared in stereo on CD in the U.S., so I presume we need to locate the mono mixes in order to obtain the correct single versions. I'm thinking if the songs are in mono on the Call Me: The A&M Years disc, then we may be onto something.

Alas, all three songs are in stereo. "Time After Time" runs (2:18), but the line "Time after time" only repeats 4 times before the abrupt fade, fewer than the LP/45/CD versions referenced in another thread.

As for "Call Me" and "There Will Never Be Another You," I don't know the 45 or LP versions, so I have no idea of the benchmark for crowd noise. Any pointers to listen for?

Eric
