I just got an mp3 from Edtop40 of the 45 version of Naked Eyes' "(What) in the Name of Love". It runs 3:49 and appears to be an edit of the LP version. Therefore, all of the song's CD appearances running 4:24 are likely the LP version.

I just ran the 45 version on my editing software and the run time is actually right at 3:50, which is also the time stated on the record label.

Can someone spread some info on the 3:29 version on the UK "Promises, Promises" 12" single that I just picked up. Sounds like a different mix.

That's a new one for me!
EMI had successfully used Jellybean to redo the intro to the first single, "Always Something There To Remind Me" (he added the drums and toned down the chimes). They had him remix "Promises Promises" for 7" and 12", to be the second single. But EMI didn't like his mixes and got Tony Mansfield to do the 7" and 12" versions. The Jellybean edits were unreleased until the Everything And More CD collection, or so I thought. The Jellybean mixes time out at 3:44 and 6:57, the UK and original US album version is 4:28, the US 45 and later-pressing album version is 3:46, and the Tony Mansfield 12" is 6:22. No idea what the 3:29 version is, but will be happy to compare it with the other versions I have. Edited by crapfromthepast |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

DOH!
Ignore everything I said above - everything I wrote is for "Promises Promises" not "(What) In The Name Of Love". Naked Eyes originally recorded "In The Name Of Love" as a B-side to one of their 12" singles from the first album. That's the 3:29 version you have, and it was titled "In The Name Of Love". The CD Everything And More included this version. They rerecorded it from scratch for their second album, and retitled it "(What) In The Name Of Love". The LP version ran about 4:28, the 45 was an edit of the LP version and ran about 3:52. Sorry for the detour down the wrong road... |

If you're still looking for these instructions, I think I have them... Starting with the 4:24 LP version from the iTunes version of Promises, Promises: The Very Best of Naked Eyes (purchased in 2016).... Two edits and a fade: Delete 1:58.987 to 2:07.364 of the LP version Delete 3:18.811 to 3:35.753 of the LP version The file then runs longer than the 45 version, so you have to fade the result from about 3:36 to 3:51. I'm not good with fades, so I can't tell you what kind of fade it is. I just know the music starts to fade at 3:36 and is gone by 3:51. Hope that helps. |

Thanks JL328. I only have the LP version at this point in time, so I'll give the edit a shot later, using your instructions.

I found the 3:50 version of "(What)
In the Name of Love" in an import CD. It is a 5-CD various artists compilation from Chile titled 80's Forever Volumen 2 - 100 Clįsicos Anglo del Pop y el Rock (EMI, 908263 2 0). Track 6 from disc 3 is the single version of "(What) In the Name of Love" running 3:50. Here is the Discogs entry of that compilation: https://www.discogs.com/en/Various- 80s-Forever-Volumen-2-100- Cl%C3%A1sicos-Anglo-Del-Pop-Y-El- Rock/release/2801789 |
