My commercial 45 has a listed time of (3:03), but an actual time of (3:14). The ending goes on :11 longer than what is found on the (3:03) CD versions, and was probably faded by CD compilers trying to match its (3:03) listed time.

I've yet to hear a CD version that matches the 45 version I have on WB, regardless of timing or fading.

Just excavated through to the letter "G" of my personal LP inventory, and I happened to have both a commercial and a promo copy of the original album containing this song - both included the exact same details. Unlike the 45, both the LP's title and the listed title of the hit song on the album label is stated as "Junkfood Junkie". Like the 45, it also has a listed time of (3:03). But at the (3:10) mark, however, the song's ending applause runs right into the next track on the LP, "Like The Trout Dart About". And, though it has yet to be confirmed, and although very similar, upon first listen I believe that the version of the song appearing on the 45 is a different "live" take of the song than the one which was included on the LP. To confirm this, I will soon shoot out both a 45 & LP version dub, to either Aaron or Todd, for their analysis/confirmation, and I will report back with their findings.

While researching this song tonight, I discovered on Discogs that the Warner single is not the original issue. It was originally issued on an independent label called Peaceable Records in 1975. Both records list a running time of 3:03 and both say "Recorded Live at McCabe's in Santa Monica." Could they be different? Could this be the explanation for the different takes and/or running times?
![]() The original Peaceable issue also had a picture sleeve and a different B-side: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=2696637 |

I wish i still had my Warner LP to check this (hopefully the above comparison will tell..)
I seem to recall the Warner LP was simply the live take from the 45, but with some added reverb and extra crowd effects over it. It's been many years and this is from memory... |

Sorry to dredge this up, but I am on a 70s kick.
There is a digital 45 of "Junk Food Junkie" on iTunes that runs 3:17, matching the WB 45's run time (plus a couple seconds of end silence). To my ears, this is the same version, same vocal take as what appears on the Dr. Demento disk except that it contains all of the single's end applause/crowd noise and is not faded early. Can anyone confirm that I am right that this is the correct WB single version (and length)? The database lists a number of entries for this song, all of which run between 3:01 and 3:03. Although two of the versions are listed as "alternate takes," none of the other listings contain a version or length designation even though the timings of these versions do not match the 45. Based on jimct's observation that the LP version runs at least 3:10 (before it tracks into the next selection), I am surmising that these are also not LP version. Are these simply the WB 45 version faded early, as suggested above? If so, should the database state that they are "faded 0:11 early" or something similar? I am also intrigued by EMB55's observation that none of the CD versions matches the WB 45, regardless of timing or fading. I realize he only had one post in 2008 and is probably not reading this, but is that true? If so, what are the differences? I haven't heard the actual 45 in a long while, but the Dr. Demento disk at least contains the version I remember (albeit faded early). Lastly, did anyone ever reach a conclusion regarding whether the 45 and LP contained different vocal takes? If so, is it possible that the "alternate takes" on "Dumb Ditties" and/or "25 All-Time Novelty Hits" are the LP version (if it is, indeed, a different vocal take) or even the Peacable 45 version (which I have never heard)? Thanks. |

That (3:17) version on iTunes is the correct WB 45 version.

Damn shame it's not available in lossless. It's also available as an MP3 on Napster, but not on Amazon for some reason. |

It's not on Rhapsody either. They only have re-recordings.

Tesco in the UK has it, listed as a 320kb MP3. However, I have found with buying MP3s online from 7Digital and Napster, very frequently what is sold as 320kb MP3s is revealed to be a lower bitrate upsampled to 320kb, if you do spectral analysis on the tracks. Only MP3s from EMI/Capitol seem to consistently be actually 320kb when they claim to be.
