My commercial 45 has a listed time of (5:49), but an actual time of (5:45).

like jim's, my commercial 45 issued as a&m 2162 states a run time of 5:49 but actually runs 5:45....if you fade out the last 0:04 from any of the cd versions you're effectively re-creating the true vinyl 45 version.....

Is the 4:25 45 dj version simply a fade or an edit? (and does anyone know what is edited out?)

It's on Classics Volume 9 (CD). Basically they tightened it up by editing to the hook after each verse if I remember correctly. We wouldn't play it in Albany at WTRY (We played the LP version) because AOR stations had already established the song and the edit sounded weird.

Wow! I haven't seen that picture sleeve in a long time.
I can recall when buying 45's I always made sure that I bought it with a picture sleeve.
I missed quite a few early 70's sleeves when I was a little guy because I hadn't caught on to the picture sleeve.
the way it was heard on the radio

The intro's a little shorter as well.
