Pat, you mention that the remix is on "More Music from 'Coyote Ugly' ".
Wasn't there also a "Coyote Ugly" soundtrack and didn't it contain the 45 version? |

The version on the first Coyote Ugly soundtrack is the original, which is quite different from the hit remix version.

Aaron,
I have the cd single for "Can't Fight The Moonlight" Curb 73116 and it is identical to the version on my soundtrack cd to "Coyote Ugly" Curb 78703. You mention that the hit version is the remix but that isn't what is on my soundtrack cd so the question must be asked if there are two different pressings of the soundtrack cd. Here is the matrix number stamped on my copy of this cd 3 D2 78703-2 RE-1 01. What worries me is the RE-1 on my matrix number. |

Pat, I don't dispute the fact that your CD single and soundtrack are the same. However, most top 40 stations played the "Graham Stack Remix" rather than the soundtrack version. The remix is the one that became the hit, although I don't know if it was on the CD single or not, because I don't own the single.

As I mentioned above, the cd single which is what was for sale to the public, was the soundtrack version and that is the version that Billboard listed on their charts so I feel I have to list that as the 45 version.

Agreed. The 45 version is the one from the original soundtrack and the cd single; however, the remix, which is on More Music From Coyote Ugly, as EdisonLite mentions above, is the one that most top 40 radio stations played and became the "hit" version.

Actually, it's think it's arguable as to what was the "hit" version. In my city (L.A.), my pop station played both versions but I heard the original version more than the remix. Also, my AC stations played the original versions. I have the CD single and it is the original, and it matches the album version, so I'd have to say all those should be considered the 45 version, and the version on "More Music" should be listed as "remix".

Yes, there's not an argument from me as to how the song should be listed. In Michigan, I never heard the original version on any of the top 40 stations I listened to and/or worked at; however, there were obviously markets who played the 45 version. On my Promo Only - Mainstream Radio series, they issued the "remix" when the song was released. For some strange reason, nine months later, they issued the original version.

I'll jump in here and agree with the overall consensus... The version of "Can't Fight the Moonlight" on the original soundtrack and CD single should be considered the 45 version even though the Graham Stack Remix received the most Top 40 airplay in many markets. I would take EdisonLite's comment an extra step further and say the remix on the More Music from Coyote Ugly CD should be listed as: (radio remix).

According to my research, there was an official 3-track promo CD single release for LeAnn Rimes' "Can't Fight the Moonlight" on Curb CS333 with the following track listing and printed run times:
1) ALBUM VERSION - 3:35 2) GRAHAM STACK RADIO EDIT - 3:35 3) THUNDERPUSS RADIO EDIT - 3:36 Can anyone who has this, or any other existing promo CD single release for this song, please pass along the actual run times? Thanks! |
