In an effort to not hijack the Stevie Wonder "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" thread...
Does anyone know of some other Motown Top 40 hits where a second 45 pressing was remixed and reissued shortly after the first pressing? |

Todd, I didn't mean to open up a "Pandora's Box Of Angst" on your part when I answered your question as best I could. That Gordy did this as often as he did surprised me. But this issue has come to a head of late almost entirely for one simple reason: The release of the Motown Singles Boxes CDs. Brian's & my "guest review" evaulations of these for Pat, and then trying to correctly incorporate these CD details into Pat's database, has been a lot of work. There have been at least 25 different times in this series so far, where a "first pressing" and a "second pressing" version of the same song both appear. How does Pat properly document these? This issue has caused both of us much agita over the past 9 months or so. I have mp3'd Pat numerous original 45s/Singles Box versions for his evaluation, in response to his questions to me, to try to provide the most accurate descriptions of these tracks for his subscibers. When two different pressings of the same song both appear on the Singles Boxes, two unique database descriptions are required, that's all. I have found that, more often than not, the "second CD version" seems to match my 45 most of the time, in addition to some other "inside radio" points I made to you in that e-mail. I'm sure the vast majority of these-type songs have already been identified/included within this series, and that very few, if any, "pre-1972 version surprises" remain out there. For Motown, at least!
