Although not in the database, this song peaked at #37 in BB in 2/79. I do not currently own a stock 45 for this song, but my latest "Pop Annual" states a stock 45 time of (3:34). (And I'll bet my friend Paul Haney a cup of coffee that "his" RR copy actually runs (3:48) as well.) :)   I do happen to own a long/short promo 45 for it, however. The "short version" has a listed time of (3:34), but an actual time of (3:48). Meanwhile, the "long version" has a listed time of (4:12), but an actual time of (4:09). FYI, I currently own this song on CD on the following: "Drift Away: His Very Best" (Razor & Tie RE 2112-2), with an actual timing of (4:12).

Jim, just to confirm our stock copy indeed states a time of (3:34) and runs (3:48).

Anyone ever found the version running 3:48 on CD. BTW, what is the difference between the short and long versions? Is the short version just an early fade or an edit?

Bumping this up to see if anyone has an answer. Thanks!

It's an edit.

Here are editing instructions, using the timing of the LP version from Ultimate Collection:

Delete the 32 beats starting on the word "do" (from the line "you can do it") from about 3:30 to about 3:48 of the LP version.

Add a fade from about 3:53 (starting on the word "do") to about 4:07 of the LP version, which corresponds to 3:35 to 3:49 after you've made the edit.

Speed up by 0.5%.

(I reverse-engineered Aaron's recreation. Aaron gets all the credit here.)

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
