For the recent "Hard To Find Jukebox Classics 1958: Pop Gold" CD, Pat states it is the 45 version (in stereo). It runs 2:31. The Pop Annual book indicates a run time of 2:29. I know it's not too much of a difference, but when it's a speed difference (vs. a fade) I tend to notice such things. Does anyone have a 45 they actally time for us? Perhaps there was more than one pressing of this 45?

David -
My (somewhat beat up) commercial 45 (Roulette 4115) of The Playmates' "Beep Beep" lists a run time of 2:20, but I timed it at 2:31, exactly the same as the cd you listed. I don't detect any speed issues by ear. Jon O. |

My own attempt at a stereo 45 version ran 2:28. The 45 does run 2:31, but it has speed variations throughout the song, thus making it difficult to recreate a proper version in stereo.....the Hard To Find Jukebox Classics cd does replicate the 45 version in stereo faithfully with speed variations fixed to match the 45 and it is the correct time for the 45 version.

For what it's worth, count me in as another forum member who comes up with an actual commercial 45 run time of 2:31, not 2:20 as stated on the record label for The Playmates' "Beep Beep". The database currently shows the actual 45 run time of 2:29. So, either this timing is slightly off or it's indicative of two pressings with differing run time lengths.

I've heard two different versions of this song, one with an instrumental intro and another that starts cold. Which is the 45 version? I only have this
song on VA comps, and it's always the cold-intro, but ISTR back in the 70s a friend having the longer version on a reissue-label 45. |

The LP version (3:06) has an instrumental intro, followed by the chorus, and then goes into the first verse. Perhaps the reissue 45 used the LP version.

I have to temporarily pause database updates, as we are working on some things behind the scenes. Any changes I make right now would be lost and have to be re-entered. It appears the 2:29 timing comes from an old Pop Annual book, so we should update it to 2:31. |

Just for the record, the Pop Annual book now lists the time as (2:31).
