In another thread, it was documented that DJ copies run (4:13) and (4:32) for "To The Moon And Back." The database currently says (3:37) and (4:32). I believe the 3:37 was carried over in error from "I Want You," which does have a DJ version running that length.

Somewhere along the way, I picked up a copy running 3:39 for "To The Moon And Back."

John, there appears to be a UK CD single with a listed 3:42 "Radio Edit." Was this version also issued in the US? I only know of the "Short Edit" and "Long Edit" with the listed 4:13 and 4:32 times. Given that the song charted twice with almost a year in between, it's likely there are other promo CDs in existence.

Aaron, I have both the 1997 and 1998 promo CD singles, and here are all the particulars:
(1997)-Savage Garden-"To The Moon And Back" (CSK 0560) 1-Long Edit (listed & actual 4:32) 2-Short Edit (listed & actual 4:13) (1998)-Savage Garden-"To The Moon And Back" (CSK 41072) 1-Long Edit (listed & actual 4:32) 2-Short Edit (listed & actual 4:13) 3-(callout hook #1) 4-(callout hook #2) I have no evidence that John's (3:39) version of the song ever made it to radio, but there could've always been another promo CD issued, that we never got in... |

Thanks, Jim! This is exactly my recollection of what we received at my old top 40 station. I also don't remember a shorter version that what was on those two promos.

Most likely, the dub I have is of UK origin.

I just picked up a copy of the European CD single:
(1998)-Savage Garden-"To The Moon And Back" (COL 666080 1) 1-Radio Edit (listed 3:42; actual 3:41) 2-The Almighty 7" Mix (listed 3:48; actual 3:41) Maybe this is the version in question? A quick listen to the intro of these two tracks sounds the same to me. Edited by chendagam |
