My commercial 45 (confirmed as Imperial 66214, is styrene, with deadwax of "IM6297") has a listed time of (2:13), but an actual time of (2:48). But I think I figured out what happened here; pressing plant label issues. I believe Imperial was about to have the labels' titles affixed to the wrong sides. Through an 11th hour adjustment, they somehow managed to at least get the correct song title on the proper 45 side. But the other label info (such as timing and song deadwax info) still belongs to the 45's flip side. My "Stop Stop Stop" label not only shows a wrong time of (2:13), but wrong deadwax info of "IM6298". But both these pieces of information actually pertain to the 45's flip side "It's You". Similarly, a timing of (2:47) and label deadwax of "IM6297" (which are actually the "Stop Stop Stop" details) wrongly appear on the label of the "It's You" 45 side. Assuming I am correct here, both sides listed/actual timings are now to within a second or two of each other, and the deadwax info for both sides are now both exact matches. I am wondering if later 1966 pressing runs either fixed or continued to duplicate these wrong time/deadwax details - anyone with a copy?

That's exactly what is was, Jim. My commercial 45 is a Monarch pressing, which I bought as soon as I heard the song on the radio. "It's You", which is also a top-notch tune, is listed at the correct (2:13) on the B-side. The deadwax info is all correct, and doesn't resemble the Etch-A-Sketch-gone-berserk matrix markings that your copy had. :) I didn't fare as well with the follow-up Hollies single, though. I neglected to take the vinyl pressing of "On A Carousel" out of its picture sleeve for a closer inspection, and didn't discover until I'd brought it home that it had the B-side's "All The World Is Love" label on both sides of the 45. |
