How does the 45 open--with a drum track or a keyboard?

If it opens with the keyboard, then I'm pretty sure you'd need to snip off the opening drum sequence and then fade early. If the 45 opens with the drum, then I'm not sure what needs to be edited.

okay.........just got my 45 copy in the mail today.....the 45 is just an edit of the cd version.......the front 0:18 of the song is edited out and then it's faded out to the 3:56 mark on the cd version so your net run time on the 45 is 3:38.....

Good job. Just created the edit. Another one off the list.

my commercial 45 issued as atlantic 4025 does not state a version on the sleeve or label but it does state a run time of 3:40 and truely does run that length....if you edit out the first 0:18 and then fade the "abacab" cd version you'll effectively re-create the true 45 version.....thanks john!!

Actually, the 45 version of "Man On The Corner" is remixed. You cannot create the 45 version from the LP version. It's been a while since I've compared the two, but I'll try to provide more details when I get time.

When creating a edit/fade from the LP version for Ed, Aaron, I noticed right away that the 45 sounded quite different. Guess I was correct.

Time to head to ebay for a 45!

Ed, I do recall the percussion being brought forward in the mix. It's not just a simple EQ change, though. I'll give it a more thorough listen when I get home later this evening.

Ed, you are definitely correct that it has been EQ'd brighter on the 45. You are also correct that the bongos and cymbals have been brought forward in the mix quite a bit. Phil's vocals have also been mixed slightly differently (in terms of volume), and his background vocals have been brought forward a little. It is true, however, that nothing new has been added, as far as instrumentation or effects.

The bottom line is that the 45 was, in a sense, remixed, since someone took the time to move the percussion forward and tinker with the vocal levels a little---something that cannot be done without going back to the original multi-track tapes.
