Funny, I never heard this edit during the song's chart run...every station around here (including the one where I was a weekender) played the 3:33 version back in the autumn of 1970. Dunno if the short version was only selectively serviced, or what. First time I heard the edit I thought it was a station edit.
I know there were 2 different stock singles of this, the aforementioned 3:33, and one with a listed time of 5:58 that was essentially the album version faded early. |

Thanks to Steve, I was able to hear a recreation of the DJ edit. You'll need a section of the LP version to complete the DJ edit, as the needed instrumental section isn't in the 45 version.

I was wondering if it was close to what Dick Bartley has used in the past.
It essentially plays the 45 version then ends with the LP version close. Maybe it was Bartley's own creation. |

Not sure what Bartley uses, but the short promo version had different edits in the intro and bridge than the stock. I don't remember it having a cold ending like the album did. |

Three DJ 45s were issued, I'm not sure of the order except that the 3:33 was the last one issued. There was the 5:58 version which is an early fade of the LP version. There is the 2:58 version. Then the 3:33 version. That may have been the order released, the longest first, the 2:58 edit second, and finally the 3:33 version.
The 3:33 version sounds like somebody took the 2:58 version, took some of the music out of the the middle but spliced organ/guitar solo back in. This would explain the level change which happens at the splice before the instrumental break, AND the early splice back after the instrumental break, it's a beat early. There is no reason for that last edit, it was obviously a mistake as they spliced back in to the ending of the 2:58 edit, they probably figured it was "close enough" or didn't notice or care. The 3:33 version often sounded a little out of phase when played in mono, probably from the splicing back in process. |

Bill, are you absolutely certain that 1970 US Liberty 56183 stock and
promo 45s did exist with a length of (5:58)? I have been able to confirm the existence of the other two US promo 45 lengths you specify, (2:58) and (3:33). But never a (5:58) US promo 45. Of course, this doesn't mean one didn't exist. I just can't yet confirm it. And every single US stock copy that I have ever owned or seen has always had a listed time of (3:33). I've never found a single US (5:58) stock copy. And I've been looking for one for years now. Yesterday, I was able to buy a (5:58) stock 45 copy on eBay. However, it was a Canadian copy. In fact, the listing said "Canada-only (5:58) 45 length." Now just because a merchant says something, that doesn't make it true. But his statement does also match my own experience. Bill, I consider you to be one of the very top authorities here on Pat's board. Do you happen to own actual US stock/promo (5:58) copies for "Green-Eyed Lady", or are you going from memory on it?
