Currently, the database contains promo CD single information for BLACKstreet featuring Dr. Dre's "No Diggity". I thought I'd pass along that cassette single copies consist of the "LP Version" and have an actual run time of 5:05.

Meanwhile, commercial CD single copies of "No Diggity" also state "LP version" and have an actual run time of 5:04 (the printed time is 5:06).

Since this info is buried in another thread, I thought I'd include all of it here.
INT5P-6028 1. Single Version (listed & actual 4:29) Front sticker says "featuring Dr. Dre." This version also features rap by Queen Pen. INT5P-6073 1. LP Version (listed 5:03; actual 5:04) 2. Rapless Version (listed & actual 3:59) I also just obtained a 3rd promo CD for "No Diggity," which contains the following: INT5P-6092 1. Das Diggity Radio (listed & actual 4:25) 2. BJ Das Radio (listed 4:00; actual 3:59) The above versions are remixes that sample "Blind Man Can See It" by James Brown, which was also sampled in the original mix of "They Want EFX" by Das EFX (hence the reason it's called the "Das Diggity" version). The "BJ Das Radio" has "Billie Jean" lyrics, like the version on the commercial US Maxi single. Finally, I know of a 4th promo CD single, but I do not own it: INT5P-6057 (printed times only) 1. Billie Jean Remix (5:38) 2. "All Star" Remix (4:44) 3. "Will" Remix (4:27) 4. LP Version (5:03) 5. LP Instrumental (4:44) These exact same tracks appear on the commercial US maxi single but in a slightly different order. Not sure if this is a world record for the most US promo CD single configurations issued for the same song, but I can't, offhand, think of others that have this many. |

Anyone remember if the "Rapless version" was the hit, or it was the LP version with Dre? I'm pretty sure it was. Radio cut Dr. Dre!

Probably depended on the station, as I would guess Urban Radio played the version with Dr. Dre. But on Top 40, I know all ever heard was the Rapless Version. |

When the song was a current, during the day, we played the Rapless Version. At night, we'd play the Single Version w/Dr. Dre and Queen Pen.
As a gold, I worked at a couple different top 40 stations that played it, and we went with the Rapless Version. Edited by aaronk |

I just noticed that there's at least 2 more promo CD
Singles than the ones Aaron listed above on Discogs. They're both listed as CD-R's and one of them is labelled as "No Rap Version", which I'd assume is the same as the "Rapless Version" from one of the other promos. So to be clear, the "Single Version" running 4:29 is not actually what was used on the commercial singles? It was mentioned above that the LP Version appears on the commercial Cassette and CD Single, and I didn't see any listings on Discogs for a commercial 45. Also, is there an explicit version of this song anywhere? The LP version has a few words by Queen Pen muffled out, but I didn't see any copies of the LP or Single with a Parental Advisory sticker. |
