I just noticed that the stereo versions I have contain a bass from the
beginning, however it comes in at :05 of the mono. Is this another 45 vs. LP difference the database needs to log? |

Interesting catch, David. Since the stereo and mono tracks
listed in the database have similar run times, can someone do me a favor and post the actual run time of the 45? |

well, in addition to this discovery, I also located a stereo version that starts
off in the left channel, then pans to the right where at :05 the bass (and drums) kick in. Do we have two stereo versions to research and document? |

Yes this qualifies as an LP version vs 45 version comment but what I need to clarify the comment in the database would be is this a "45 and mono LP version" so if anyone has a mono copy of the "How Sweet It Is" LP could you please let me know which version appears on the mono vinyl LP? To be safe I guess I need to know if there was a stereo vinyl "How Sweet It Is" LP and what version appears on there also.

just a follow up that the database has not yet been updated for this track. I
know Pat is waiting for someone to reply with mono/stereo LP listening to help him clarify the version info (re: the intro bass line and panning). I believe the "How Sweet It Is" LP was issued in both mono and stereo (TM/TS- 258) in early 1965. The track also appeared in stereo on "Greatest Hits" in April 1965, and on " A Collection of 16 Original Big Hits, Volume 3" in June 1966. Can anyone assist here? |

me again...a friend listened to some Marvin Gaye CDs as well as the
Anthology (1974) LP. Both that LP and the " A Collection of 16 Original Big Hits, Volume 3" contain the bass line. So, we need to determine if either of "How Sweet It Is" or "Greatest Hits" did as well. Somewhere along the line, the stereo version with the panned guitar and no bass line appeared! |

John, my original Tamla 54093 commercial 45 has a listed time of (2:42) and an actual time of (2:44). The machine-stamped deadwax info is "-R4KM- 3409-1-S". FYI, the bass line does kick in at the :05 mark. Edited by jimct |

I was finally able to obtain both the mono and stereo pressings of the parent vinyl LP "How Sweet It Is" and the vinyl 45 which I have had for some time. Much to my surprise there is no mix difference between the 45, mono LP and stereo vinyl LP. So I have listened to every compact disc entry in the database and flagged numerous entries with a "remix" designation which is meant to indicate that the bass is present from the beginning of the song. There are numerous cd's that have the correct stereo original mix of this song.
