Ed, except for a couple of years during the early '80s, Capitol 5112 remained in print for decades, so it went through the full succession of Capitol 45 label designs, beginning with the yellow/orange swirl used for the initial late-1963 release. From there, it appeared on the Capitol red and orange "target" label, Apple, orange Capitol, purple Capitol, the 1984 20th anniversary retro yellow/orange swirl design, black and rainbow "color band," then back to the final purple design before Capitol stopped marketing 45s. A 1994 30th anniversary issue also carried the 5112 stock number.

The 5000-series Beatles Capitol 45s from 1963-67 were reassigned to the blue-labeled Starline series in 1981 and were given new X-6000-series stock numbers. "I Want To Hold Your Hand"/"I Saw Her Standing There" was re-badged as Capitol Starline X-6278.

Around 1984, Capitol switched its current-line 45 design from the purple label to the black/rainbow colorband design. Concurrently, the Starline series was switched over to the same colorband label, though still bearing the Starline logo and X-6000-series stock numbers. All of the previous blue-labeled Beatles Starline 45s made this transition except for "...Hold Your Hand"/"...Standing There", which reverted back to its original 5112 catalog number and dropped its Starline designation following the 1984 20th anniversary issue. The same song pairing and 5112 stock number lasted through the 1988 switch back to the purple label.

The only other U.S. Capitol issue that didn't appear under the familiar 5112 number was the 1994 clear vinyl "For Jukeboxes Only!" 45, issued as S7-17689 on the purple Capitol label by Cema Special Markets. For this appearance, "IWTHYH" was backed by its original U.K. B-side, "This Boy."

Your orange label copy dates from approximately 1976 to early 1978.

I have a promo of this and it's mono/stereo. Was the stock version stereo or mono?
