the db states that both of the us appearances on cd of the
song 'ivy rose' by perry como are re-recordings.....there are many import cd compilations i see on ebay that contain the song....can anyone confirm any of these imports cds have the original version or are they all re- recordings..... |

I have the song "Ivy Rose" on the Bear Family single cd "Juke Box Baby" and it sounds like a re-recording on there. The key for me was hearing the verse, "I'll be yours..." 19 seconds into the 45, as Perry Como comes in AFTER the background singers' "Ooo". On the cd (it's at the 25 second mark due to an 8 second intro) there is no "Ooo", at least not until Perry starts to sing. I'm sure there are other differences, but that's the first and most obvious one to me (besides the intro).
Incidentally, my 45 times out to just over 3:05, although the label states a run time of 3:04. |

The Australian 2-CD set The Ultimate Collection (1999 BMG Australia
Ltd. 74321602192) unfortunately has the non-45 version as well. |

pauleschen......i also have that same disc......do most of
the tracks sound right to you?....while comparing the vinyl 45's to this disc....all the tracks on this disc sound like fold downs.....they don't sound like true mono to me....they don't sound correct while A/B'ing them.....i'd like you input, paul...thx |

I'm afraid the only Como 45s I have in good enough shape to judge are "Juke
Box Baby" and "More"/"Glendora", and the versions on the CD seem to match, although "More" seems to have a touch more echo on the CD. It wouldn't surprise me that some of the songs are fold-downs; it's just difficult to judge (other than "Ivy Rose") what they did down under. Are you aware of any other Como CDs (import or domestic) where they do this? |

thanks for your input, paul........this is the only cd
compilation i have of his......when i compare the vinyl 45's to a few of his other songs i have on cdr dub, from the rca greatest hits cd for example, they sound identical to the vinyl 45's.....this australian comp, has them out of balance.....like they're not perfectly centered compared to the vinyl 45's.....tough to explain...... |
