This song is not in the database but did peak at number 39
BB in mid 1978. Can anyone tell me if the 45 is an edit of the longer LP version or an early fade? The actual time for the 45 version would also be helpful. Thanks in advance. Edited by Santi Paradoa |

my commercial 45 for the rare earth song 'warm ride' issued
as prodigal 0640 lists the run time on the label as 2:59 but actually runs 2:58....i have the correct 45 version if you need a copy... |

What a shame this song didn't do better than it did back in
1978. There is a CD that has the 2:58 version if anyone is interested - Greatest Hits And Rare Classics |

Thank you both. I think the 45 version is just a fade of
the LP length. Can anyone confirm that for me. |

I have "Band Together" LP. The actual LP running time is (4:01), the listed time is "4:02" on the LP record label.(Prodigal P7-10025R1)
My "Warm Ride" 45 is a promotional copy. The actual running time and the listed time are both "2:59" on the record label.(Prodigal 0640F "STEREO Side") The 45 vocal starts at "0:16". The LP vocal starts at "0:33" The 45 version is an edit of the LP version. If the promo 45 is the same as the commercial 45. The edit point : at 0:00-0:16.7, plus fade out. --abagon |

I, too, was surprised this song didn't do better. It sure was played on
the radio a lot in Northeastern Wisconsin at the time. The BeeGees were all over the radio back then, but this was one of the few songs they wrote and/or played on that failed (relatively speaking). I wonder if Rare Earth's earlier, harder rocking hits had a negative influence on the low chart position, as this was sort of their "Miss You" or "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" moment?? As a young teenager when this song came out, I was not in any way influenced by their earlier sound, and thought this record was great. For what it's worth, the version I have is from the Rare Earth LP "Superstar Series - Celebrating Motown's Twentieth Anniversary", which includes the single version (I assume), as it runs 2:58 and the vocal comes in nearly 17 seconds into the song, as abagon pointed out. More likely the fact that they hadn't had a hit in 6 years, and were pretty much seen as has-beens by 1978. |

Heh, yeah, there's THAT. And they haven't had a hit since, either. Too bad, "Warm Ride" is a great song. |

It would've been a bigger hit if they'd changed the band's name to "Prodigal." ;)
"Warm Ride" stiffed very quickly at our station. Local listeners, record buyers and jukebox pluggers didn't show any interest in it at all. It always felt weird when you'd see a record your station had dropped weeks earlier begin to show up on AT40's cue sheets. Hearing those "flashbacks" like "Warm Ride" as Casey excitingly touted them as "new to the chart" felt even stranger. It was similarly fascinating to discover that your station's lackluster experiences with such records had not been unique. "Moving up one spot to number 39" was Caseyspeak for "this &*!@# stiff's outta here next week!" ;) |

So the 45 is an edit after all. Thank you all for the info
especially on where to find it. Now on with the countdown. |
