This is probably Steve Winwood's most under appreciated song. LP version runs 6:04, 45 version is listed to run 4:54. Does anyone know how to re-create the shorter 45 version or if it's even possible?

To the best of my knowledge, "Split Decision" was not a 45 in the USA.
It was only worked as an AOR emphasis track released on promo 12-inch [Island PRO-A-2540]. One side is LP Version, other side is edit listed at 4:54. Effectively, the third verse/chorus is edited out on the edit. Amazingly good record. Andy |

Would you happen to know the times that were edited out to make the 45 edit so I can re-create it?

It's hard to tell the exact edit point. Try editing out approx. 2:13 - 3:08 of the LP version. You'll get close.

Late to this thread, but the edit actually runs closer to 5:00, not the listed 4:54.
Also, if you're looking for a reference to recreate the edit, I posted my rip of the 12" single to Youtube a couple years ago: Steve Winwood - Split Decision (Edit) |

Great record.
Would have loved to hear it on Top-40 radio. Musically, it sounds clearly like an homage to The Band's "Chest Fever". I wonder if songwriter Robbie Robertson or organist Garth Hudson felt honored (or dismayed). Andy |

A personal favorite of mine. I gave it plenty of spins on my college station back in the day.
