not a Top 40 hit, but...
I have come across two versions of this, that has led me to conclude that the LP and 45 versions are different recordings. The 45 label timing is 2:02, with my version from the CD "The Very Best Of The New Christy Minstrels" running 1:58 while the LP timing (from Discogs) is 2:43, the same as my version from CD "A Retrospetive 1962 - 1970" (titled "Chim Chim Cher-ee"). Anyone can confirm? thanks. |

I checked my copy of the vinyl Greatest Hits The New Christy Minstrels, (CL 9279). The listed time for Chim Chim Cher-ee is 2:43, and indeed it runs 2:43. It ends cold. I don't have the single to compare.

David,
I found a video, that's stereo, with the song running 1:56. Is this a stereo recreation or re-recording? My guess is that the 45 was mono. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyhGtGRZ-94 |

Yep, I found that video too. It is true stereo, and, the 45 would have been
mono (as were pretty well ALL of the time). Edited by davidclark |

got my answer...
A friend has the CD "A Retrospetive 1962 - 1970", and the liner notes indicate that the LP ("Chim Chim Cher-ee") and 45 versions are different recordings - the 45 features Barry McGuire still a member, but it sounded thin - like a demo - so they redid it for the LP. |
