Not one of her bigger pop successes, "Stay For Awhile" missed the Hot 100, but peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard A/C chart. Both the commercial 45 and the promo 45, on A&M, display a runtime of 3:43, which would indicate either a very early fade or a significant edit against the 5:37 (listed) runtime of the album version.
I have searched extensively on Discogs and have not found the A&M Records 45 version on CD. Does anyone have this 45 on hand and/or know the edit points to recreate the single version? There is a separate 45 from Myrrh Records (her Christian label at the time), which issued a (listed) 4:22 edit. That is not the version I am interested in. Thanks for any help! I just transferred the promo 45 (AM-2864). It runs 3:43, and is one edit in the intro and a fade. To recreate it from The Collection / full-length version:
Cut from 0:05.8 to 0:14.0, removing the first electric tom hit and subsequent bars, moving up the identical tom hit originally at 0:14.0. Then fade from 3:23 to 3:43.3. The fade-out starts fast but becomes more gradual, fading to silence as she sings "won't you stay with meeee..." It's interesting - the full-length version tries to marry an upbeat Abba-esque pop song with the moody synth atmosphere of Mr Mister's Broken Wings in the intro and outro, even bringing in Richard Page on vocals to - presumably - emphasize the connection. But the promo edit removes much of the Broken Wings sound, leaving you with just a hint of it in the intro, and from there it's synthpop Abba all the way to the fade-out. I think it actually works better that way. Edited by davidlg1971 |

Thanks David! I like both versions, but the simple edits they made for the single do change the overall impression that the listener is left with, drastically. I had never thought of it as Abba-esque, but I can totally feel
that now, especially without the drawn out outro of the album version. |

It's funny - I always thought of this as ABBA-esque (specifically, later ABBA), but it didn't seem like anyone else agreed. I'm glad there are at least two more other people in the world.
