I'm pretty sure that all I ever heard on radio was the No Intro version that starts with vocals. Can anyone confirm?

I had to go to youtube to search for a different version. Sure enough, there's one that has a short sax solo at the beginning.

In short, that version with the sax was one I've never remembered hearing.

The no intro version just starts at the :15 mark in this video.

We played the version with the sax intro on our station.

Hykker, if you played the one with the sax solo, are you referring to 1994 when
it was a hit? If so, then what would have been the source? I can't find anything
prior to the 2000 Rhino 1994 "Billboard Top Hits 1994" CD that includes the
(lovely) sax intro.

davidclark -

The U.S. promo CD single and U.S. CD maxi-single had the
sax solo intro ("Radio Version") released in 1994. I also
heard this "sax solo" intro version ("Radio Version")
regularly on the radio in addition to the "No Intro"
version.

Thanks, Jason.

I had checked discogs to see if I could find a timing that was as long as the
"Billboard Top Hits 1994" version, but none were 4:33. I DID find 4:28. I guess
another label timing issue.

Correct. The Billboard Top Hits 1994 version runs about 7
seconds longer. I time the "Radio Version" about 4:26 and
the Billboard disc about 4:33. It sounds like to me that
Billboard simply took the sax solo intro and pasted on the
album version (but faded about 5 seconds early, as
attempting this myself brought the file to about 4:38). The
fade on the Billboard disc and album version begin about
the same spot.

Jason is 100% correct.

For some reason, Rhino's Billboard Top Hits 1994 (2000) uses the sax intro from Track 1 ("Radio Version") of the promo CD single (RCA 62779), tacked onto Track 5 ("Album Version") of the same promo CD single (as a differently-EQ'd digital clone), and faded a few seconds early.

Why Rhino chose not to just use the full Track 1 from the promo CD single is a mystery, unless the Rhino producer just wanted a slightly longer version of the song.

Also, Track 2 ("Radio Version No Intro") of the same promo CD single is also a digital clone of Track 1, minus the sax intro. Can anyone point out the difference between the "Radio Version No Intro" and the "Album Version"?

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Thanks for confirming, Ron. The producer should have just
included the full 4:38 version of the song then instead of
fading 5 seconds earlier. Weird.

Other than the "Radio Version No Intro" (4:11) fading
earlier than the "Album Version" (4:23), I'm curious, too,
about any mix differences.
