Seems I picked up yet another CD on the cheap at that same local thrift shop the other day which features a top 40 hit, yet I noticed it's currently NOT listed in the on-line database - and I would argue that this CD belongs...

So in 1990, Basia scored her second top 40 hit, "Cruising for Bruising". The song's original parent album was 1989's London Warsaw New York, and Pat does seem to have all incarnations of that album already listed in the database. It's also since appeared on a couple of "best of..." compilations of hers, and Pat has those listed, too. So far, so good...

"Cruising for Bruising" (Epic 73239) was also the album's lead single here in the U.S. It was followed by "Baby You're Mine" (Epic 73405 - hit #18 AC in Billboard) and her cover of "Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" (Epic 73485 - hit #33 AC in Billboard), both of which flopped on the pop chart. Apparently desperate to get her another pop hit, as a fourth single, the label then went w/ a 7-track commercial CD maxi-single for "Brave New Hope" (Epic 49K-73593). Photos on Discogs: Basia - "Brave New Hope" (U.S. CD maxi-single) In addition to two versions of the title track, that maxi-single also featured "12-inch remixes" of previous singles "Cruising for Bruising" and "Until You Come Back to Me", among other songs. But yes, that release was clearly marketed as a SINGLE, as indicated by both the catalog no. (w/ its "49K-" prefix) and the notation "special edition CD5" on the front cover - so this one clearly DOESN'T belong in the database...

HOWEVER, by early '91, it was clear that the "Brave New Hope" single had tanked as well, so in a last-ditch effort, the label released a new, commercial 9-track EP here in the U.S., also titled Brave New Hope, and w/ a similar track listing & cover art as the previous maxi-single! That EP is the CD that I just picked up (Epic EK 48644) - oh, and it was also issued commercially on cassette. Photos of CD on Discogs (my copy is identical in every way): Basia - "Brave New Hope" (U.S. CD EP) Once again, it includes the "12-inch remix" of her top 40 hit, "Cruising for Bruising"; actual time is (6:46). W/ its new catalog no. in the EK 48000's - putting it in line w/ Sony's album releases of the time - and also the notation on the front cover changed to "special EP", I feel this particular CD is eligible for the database under "Cruising for Bruising", as it definitely WASN'T marketed as a single. But alas, even this EP failed to crack the "Top Pop Albums" chart in Billboard at the time...

Thanks! Yes, and all 13 of the entries currently shown in the on-line database for "Cruising for Bruising" are that (4:08)-ish 45/LP version (apparently the 45 & LP were the same). The fact that the Brave New Hope EP features a (6:46) "12-inch remix" that can't be found anywhere else is the main reason I'm pushing to have the EP added to the database - or at the very least, make its existence known here on the chat board...
