A few more additions/corrections of note to the 10th
edition: 01) pg. 784 - Under Rick Nelson's 1972 hit, "Garden Party", for some reason, there are two separate listings for the song's appearance on the "Garden Party" CD released on MCA 31364. And oddly, the first one indicates a running time of (3:45) for the song on that CD; the second one (a bit further down) says it runs (3:46). There is no indication that these are two different pressings of the same CD, so I assume it's just an inadvertent double-listing. I've also run across a couple other double-listings of this nature in the book, although in those cases, I didn't make a note of where I saw them... 02) pg. 795 - The correct title of the movie soundtrack ("O.S.T.") that contains Olivia Newton-John's 1984 hits, "Twist of Fate" and "Livin' in Desperate Times" on MCA 11738 is of course "Two of a Kind", not "Twist of Fate" (have had the cassette for years, and recently bought the CD version as well)... 03) pg. 832 - Okay, this one has both baffled & frustrated me for years! I own the original pressing of Ray Parker Jr.'s 1982 album, "The Other Woman", on Arista 9590 (on cassette, but I assume the vinyl LP was identical). On the album, the 1982 hit title track has a distinct cold ending. Just after Ray sings the final line at about 4:00-4:01 ("Sho' 'nuff in love"), there are several additional loud beats and the song ends cold, about 2-3 seconds later. Yet on all later collections of Parker's hits (starting w/ 1982's "Greatest Hits" on Arista 9612, 1984's "Chartbusters" on Arista 8266, etc.), the version of the song used starts to fade out at about 3:51, until it can no longer be heard immediately after he sings the "Sho' 'nuff in love" line. Other '80s V/A compilations (on Arista, as well as labels that licensed the song from them, including K-tel) always used the slightly shorter fade-out version as well... So a couple years ago, while transitioning to CD, I went ahead and bought two of RPJ's CD collections, 1993's "Greatest Hits" on Arista 18732 (included in your book), and 1999's "Ghostbusters" on BMG Special Products 44977 (also in your book). And sure enough, both of those CDs feature the faded-out version of "The Other Woman" as well! Your book doesn't indicate a difference between the original LP version of that song and the one found on those later collections, and I feel it should. (I've never owned the 45, so I don't know which version appeared on that.) I'd love to know if any of the other 5 collections that you currently have listed under "The Other Woman" w/ the (4:02) length contain the true original LP/cassette version w/ the complete cold ending... |

The 45 version fades out and that is the version found on every cd that I have listed for "The Other Woman". I will add a comment to distinguish the 45 version from the LP version in the 11th edition!

Thanks for checking your 45 and all those other CDs for
me, Pat - now I understand a little better why most (if not all) collections contain the faded-out version of that song... One other error I just spotted: pg. 1015 - The correct title of the parent album on CBS Associated 39336 that featured Slade's 1984 hits, "Run Runaway" and "My Oh My", was "Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply", not "Keep Your Hands to Yourself"... |
