I recently purchased the vinyl 45 of Michael Jackson's "Got To Be There," and was surprised to find it was mono, when it's stereo on the Hitsville boxed set. I double-checked the label number and the A and B sides, and whether it was a US pressing. Everything seemed to check out.
I thought the whole idea of the Hitsville boxes was to use the single mixes. Anyone have any idea why this was stereo on the Hitsville set? |

a "fold-down" is when a stereo mix is taken and a mono mix is created from it by combining the two channels. Not much thought or effort is put into this mono mix. This is as opposed to a "real" mono mix where it is created from the multi-tracks (or it is a mono recording to begin with).
