Thankfully, as Steve jokingly opined, Pat no longer has the only copy of the
shorter, (3:40) on both sides promo 45. I have just finally picked one up; deadwax info is exactly the same as what Pat states above. Strangely, though, for as often as it has been referenced in this thread/how many of us own the longer promo, existence of the listed (4:32), actual (4:25) promo 45 has never been added to the db. Pat, deadwax for the longer RCA 0204 promo is a faintly-pressed, machine stamped "WPKS 8342 5S". And, unlike the shorter promo, the longer one has the also-charted-Hot-100 "Let Yourself Go" on the flip side. |

This all points to the short version of GIC being a later
reservice...someone at RCA must have believed in it, but thought it was too long. Since "Let Yourself Go" had already run out of whatever little steam it had, there was no reason to include it. I just checked my promo, and LYG was noted as the plug side...does this agree with everyone else's 4:32 promo? Edited by Hykker |

I already mentioned it upthread, but yes, my 4:32 DJ copy also lists LYG as the plug side.

So can the promo be extracted from any CD version, or do we have to slow the CD version down first? (It appears the only CD with the proper speed is On The Radio Volume 6, but I don't have it.) Also, eliminating the second half of the instrumental intro only shaves off about 12 seconds, so is there another edit or is it faded early? |

Doug, I never replicated the short 45 version from CD, and while I do have the On The Radio Vol. 6 CD, I figured the more readily-available Rhino Soul Hits Of The '70s, Vol. 1 would provide a more useful source (which has got to be the CD I was thinking of upthread three years ago, since "Going In Circles" isn't even on any of the Nipper CDs.)
To answer your question: it is faded early, with no further edits. Here are the steps, using the Rhino CD: 1. Swap the left and right channels. 2. Delete the 12.375-second segment from :12.728 to :25.103 (where the vocal starts.) Your results should sound smoother than the clunky-sounding edit on the short 45. 3. Fade from 3:24.225 to 3:36.712 (12.486 seconds.) 4. Stretch length by 101.678%. Final length should be 3:40.348. Edited by Yah Shure |

If you use the Rhino CD as the source, you'd not have the same mix as the
short promo 45. A dub of the promo 45 reveals it is an edit of the (differently mixed from the LP) commercial 45. I believe the Rhino CD is simply a sped-up LP mix. |
