I have a question regarding U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" single. I don't have any commercial or promo single copies of this song, but I notice the printed run time on the vinyl 45, DJ 45, and promo CD single is 3:42. Is this run time accurate or does the song actually run 3:49 like it does on all CD releases to date?

Are you sure you meant "Where The Streets Have No Name"? The LP Version of that track is 5:37. The version on "Best Of 1980-1990" I believe is the Single Version, clocking in at 4:35.

Oh *crap*... I actually meant "Angel of Harlem", not "Where the Streets Have No Name". This is how my original post should have read:

Man, it would be nice if this board could be arranged to allow a user to go back and fix errors in his own messages even after the messages have already been posted.

Oooh... I used to have this, Todd. It was issued as a commercial CD3 here in the US... Unfortunately, I either sold it on Ebay or gave it away, several years ago.

Thanks, guys. I guess we can officially conclude then that the run times for "Angel of Harlem" are:

45 version - 3:44
LP version - 3:49

This means that all CD appearances for the song so far are the LP version.

Well, not so fast. There's a slight speed variation to all turntables, so what runs 3:44 on Ed's could run 3:42 on another.

According to a U2 fan site, the version on that US CD3 I mentioned runs 3:42.

I'm gonna have to double check if I gave that to a friend. I don't specifically remember getting rid of it, but I can't find it, and selling it on Ebay does ring a bell.

3:42 is the printed run time on every commercial single format I've seen so far for "Angel of Harlem", so it's certainly possible that the U2 website may also be reporting the printed run time and not the actual run time. Then again, for all I know, the website could be reporting it accurately. Whatever the case, we all know that the actual time very often differs from the printed time. You are right that speed can vary from turntable to turntable and I should exercise more caution about rushing to conclusions because of this fact. By the same token, I can personally attest to the fact that edtop40 painstakingly documents his sources and run times and I find his information to be accurate and reliable. If anyone else has a commercial single copy of "Angel of Harlem" and can make a case for a different run time, then by all means please share it with us.
