Does anyone know the edit points to Dionne Warwick's
"This Girl's in Love With You" - her gender altered cover of Herb Alpert's "Guy's" hit? The 45 label states it runs 4:13, but the CD version I have is over five minutes long. (I can't imagine late '60's Top 40 radio playing a 5+ minute song!) Thanks! |

I have the 5+ minutes version on Rhino's Very Best of
Dionne Warwick compilation from 2000 (which I believe is just a 16-track distillation of one of their earlier Dionne comps). I have it running at 4:16 on the 2013 PBS My Music collection called "Dionne Warwick Sings Burt Bacharach" and finally running at 4:10 on Time-Life's AM GOLD 1969. It appears to be just an early fade on both comps. Not sure if either matches the 45 but the original "Promises, Promises" LP I have fades around the same time as the above 2 CDs. The early fade starts around the 4 minute mark and is coming down to silence around the time Dionne begins to sing the phrase "...my hands are shaking". Edited by LunarLaugh |

The 5:22 version on Very Best Of (2000) is a non-hit remix that Bill Inglot did for the CD Hidden Gems (1992). Presumably, it uses the full take of the song, which hadn't been released until 1992.
If you can live with the original stereo version having the tail of its fade shortened by 11 seconds, Time-Life's Superhits Vol. 7 1969 (1991), Time-Life's AM Gold Vol. 1 1969 (1991), and Time-Life's 2-CD Body Talk Vol. 14 Love And Tenderness (1997) all sound fine. Edited by crapfromthepast |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Thank you both! I have the 2000 Very Best Of version
that you mentioned which I ultimately replaced with a more comprehensive 2 CD Very Best Of import (Union Square label) released in 2014 with the same five minute version of the song. |

I thought I should post this detail somewhere, and here seems as good a place as any.
The prized 4:18 version that appeared on Rhino Handmade's 2-fer of Promises, Promises/I'll Never Fall In Love Again seems to be just an early fade of the 1992 Bill Inglot remix. From 3:35 to about 4:00, the horn solo in the left channel seems much more subdued in the 1992 remix, compared with the original-mix versions on Time-Life. It's possible that it's an EQ difference, too. I'd like a second opinion... |
