We recently re-launched our online AM-radio-sounding 70s-era station WIWS 70Sound, and the guy we're having do most of the tracking is an old friend who was a big regional DJ of the day. While listening a couple of weeks ago he heard "Train, Train" come up and sent me a message that we were "playing the album version and not the 45 version."

I could see how the intro might be sliced off for the 45 but the timing on the label suggests it's just the LP version, and the only 45 I see on YouTube is the full version. Was this ever issued officially back in the day without the harmonica? I'm wondering if he as PD at the time edited it in-house and 40+ years later he's misremembering.

The file I have in my library is labeled as radio edit and
runs 2:57. It's easily recreated by chopping off the first
38 seconds.

Not sure if there was ever an "official" promo issue of the shorter version, but I do know that all
commercial 45 copies contained the prelude.

I wondered about that - looking at 45cat the promos have the same time as the commercial 45 so I'm presuming that unless that's an error the promos are the same as the stock.

Checking the TM Century database, on GoldDisc 7507R, the
listed time is 2:57. All others are listed as being (with
prelude) so I'm presuming that's the LP and commercial 45
version.

I also checked 45cat and the promos are listed with a run
time of 3:33, so I'd say the version without the prelude is
a TM Century custom edit.

In the active library I have from TM Studios in 2014, the
Classic Rock Library lists the song at 2:55. So, they music
have used the custom edit they did in their active library.

*must* have used the custom edit.
