"Get Low" by Lil Jon was issued on a 12" vinyl single. Does anyone have this commercial 12" single to verify that the 4:29 censored version that appears on the cd BET Awards 04 Nominees is the single version?

I have the commercial 12" for this song. The version on it is the album version and runs 5:27. However, I believe the 4:29 censored version is the "hit" radio version.

This is an interesting situation you bring up Paul so let's hear from the other chat board members as to which version should be considered the single version.

I'm of the firm opinion that the term "single version" should be just that... how a song specifically appears on its commercial retail single release(s). With that established, I think the A-side or leadoff track on commercial single copies should always be designated a song's official single version (except in special rare cases). If no vinyl 45, cassette single, or regular CD single exists for a particular song, I think it's best then to refer to the maxi-CD or 12-inch vinyl single release if one was issued.

Since Lil' Jon's "Get Low" was only made available commercially on a 12-inch vinyl single format, the 5:27 version in my opinion should be considered the single version here in spite of the fact the label states "album version". After all, this is the version record labels elected to make available to consumers in the form of a single release. The 4:29 censored version should therefore be considered a radio edit using this logic.

Just one man's opinion!

Question back to Paul Haney then - was the commercial 12" single version the censored version or the uncensored version?

Yes Pat, the commercial 12" is the dirty album version.
