Did you ever find out where your stereo "Dance Only with Me" actually came from? I do hear vinyl noise (although it is pretty clean).

The "Standards and Rarities" CD David refers to is on the UK Sepia label, which is a "gray-area" reissue label that uses shellac or vinyl for all its sources. So anything on the Sepia label is going to be taken from vinyl.

It's my understanding that the Acrobat label releases recordings in the U.K.'s public domain and, therefore, the quality varies wildly from title to title. That said, I should point out that I recently picked up a surprisingly good Ames Brothers 2-CD set on Acrobat ADDCD3181 called Hits Collection 1948-60. This compilation contains 54 tracks, including every single Billboard Hot 100 and Cashbox chart entry spanning the group's entire career. Though many of the tracks are dubbed from vinyl 45s and 78s, the sound quality ranges from respectable to decent overall, but not great, and are presented in their original mono mixes. Meanwhile, the packaging, artwork, and graphic design is impressively vibrant and colorful, while the CD booklet contains 15 pages of detailed liner notes. Everything on this release appears to be pretty well-researched. One of the big downsides, unfortunately, is that the discs consist of CD-Rs, not factory silver-pressed commercial CDs. I should also note that this is the only Acrobat title I currently own, and that I've heard less than stellar reviews regarding other releases from this label. So, proceed with caution if you buy anything from Acrobat as your mileage will likely vary.
