Though not directly related to Top 40 on CD, a gentleman who was an on-air personality during the heyday of WFIL and WABC in the 60's and 70's has passed away at the age of 70 after a 2 year battle with cancer. George Michael, R.I.P.
From the 1980s to as recently as 2 years ago, George was a sportscaster in Washington D.C., and for many years, hosted the "George Michael Sports Machine" on many affiliates. |

I have a 45rpm record on the WFIL "label" titled "Between The Periods", credited to "The Fantastic Philadelphia Flyers with George Michael as Gene Earlhart". It is a Dickie Goodman style "break-in" record on which Michael "interviews" members of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. My guess is that it was released in the spring of 1974 (One of the snippets is from "Billy, Don't Be a Hero", which did not become a hit until April 1974, and one of Michael's questions implies that the Flyers had not yet won their first Stanley Cup, which they would do in May 1974.)
Some day I'll figure out how to post a link to a photobucket image. Edited by Paul C |
