Would just like to know if anyone here knows if the video version of this song has ever appeared anywhere on CD. Its running time would be somewhere around 4:25. It's remixed and you can easily tell that certain lines are sung differently than the more common Album Version. I have tried looking at Discogs, but not all of the Various Artist compilations it appears on have running times listed. Thank you for any help.

Hi Dan,
I have searched for this mix exhaustively in the past and I’ve never been able to find on CD in an official capacity. It did appear on the vinyl 12” as the “Single Version”, and is a direct edit of the main 12” version, with the exception of one miserable sound effect about halfway through that can’t be located in the long mix. However, I can tell you what I have done to obtain an exact copy of this mix. The video is available as a purchase from iTunes with “Relaid Audio”. This is a rare case where the audio for the video on iTunes is crystal clear and does not contain VHS hiss— it truly sounds as good as any CD copies of the longer 12” mix that I’ve heard. I bought the video and opened the file with GoldWave, and saved as a .wav. It isn’t truly lossless, of course, but I would posit that it’s on a similar absolute quality level as other music mastered to tape and dumped to CD from the same era. So, there are a couple of options. I am happy to share my file if needed :-) -Eric / EternalStatic Edited by EternalStatic |

I don't remember seeing the video back in the day, so that's the first time I had ever heard this mix. Most of the "Single Version" (aka video version) can be extracted from the 12" Extended Mix, but there are three segments that cannot be found anywhere in this mix.
When lining them up in a multi-tracker, it is easy to see that the "Single Version" was done first. Then, additional segments were recorded and spliced in to make it extended. It's a pretty clunky 12" mix because of this, but the "Single Version" is a well-done remix. I have an unplayed 12" single in storage that I'll grab when I'm there next, which can be used to create a fully lossless "Single Version." (Also, in case there's any confusion, the 45 and LP version are the same. The "Single Version" was only released on the 12" single and is a remix.) |

Hi Aaron,
I just re-listened to the 12" and Video/"Single" Version and I can see what you mean about the shorter mix coming first. It had been a long time since I researched this one, but I can hear where they've pasted over some bits in the 12" Mix that you would need to truly pull the entire "Single" Version from it. Those are the kind of mixes that always annoy me! I remember trying to edit the 12" Remix of Chicago's "Along Comes a Woman" down to get the 7", and it was flawless until about 80% of the way in, after which you realize the end of the 7" is nowhere to be found in the long mix. (I have the short remix now, as I think it's more widely available than it used to be.) Anyway, I would love to check out your lossless copy when the surgery's all done. -EternalStatic / Eric |

Eric, check your email :) Also, I wouldn't mind hearing how the music video sound quality is for comparison.

I am a little unclear... Is the mix featured in the music video the single version that was eventually extended to create the 12" mix?
The mix from the music video is burned into my memory so I was really disappointed to discover its not on any of my CDs that feature "I Think We're Alone Now". |

The official single version, which appears on the vinyl 7", is the same as the LP version.
The 12" has what is labeled "Single Version," but this is misleading since it doesn't actually appear on the vinyl 45. The music video uses this version rather than the 45/LP version. |
