On the 45, the opening guitar strum is more prominent in the right channel. If you zoom way in, you can see that it comes in a tiny bit earlier on the right.
Same for the UK's EMI Greatest Hits CD (1988). The Hollywood Greatest Hits (1992) flips the left and right channels, so that the opening guitar strum comes in a tiny bit earlier on the left. Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties Vol. 7 1980 (1995) is digitally identical to Hollywood Greatest Hits, so it too has its left and right channels swapped. The A List Disc 6 (1994) also has its left and right channels swapped. I prefer the sound on the Hollywood GH. The EMI GH is good, but sounds like it uses a slightly higher-generation source tape. I didn't hear evidence of noise reduction on any of the commercially available discs(Not sure about The A List Disc 6). I'll be using a left/right-swapped version of the Hollywood GH in my library. (Can anyone confirm the true channel orientation of the 45? I didn't create the needledrop that I analyzed.) Edited by crapfromthepast |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Promo 45 E-46579-A has the opening guitar strum more prominent in the right channel on the stereo side. On the mono side the guitars sound centered between both channels :-)

My copy is a download from The Game, which is
listed as being on the Hollywood label. It too appears to have the channels swapped. |
