I see database timings as 3:04 (for the stereo) and 3:15 for the mono. The new Billboard Hot 100 Annual (7th Edition) lists the 45 as 2:59. Can anyone shed any light on this one?

I have the 45 but right now it's sitting in a box in storage...however it may be longer, and maybe only listed as 2:59 so that radio stations wouldn't ignore it for being over 3:00. I've never played it so I don't know how it compares to the stereo mix. It will be a few months before I can dig it out of storage so hopefully Jim or someone else can access their copy of it to determine for you first.

David and Tom, I have just timed both of my original 1968 45 copies for this, just to be extra sure, and to my complete surprise, both the listed and actual time for it is, in fact, (2:59). I think there have only been one or two other times, in at least 40 other instances where I've stopwatched a song with a listed timing ending in ":59", where it actually IS true. David, we now know that both the stereo and mono CD appearances run long. FYI, my 45 did just sound like it faded a bit sooner than the version I've heard on oldies radio over the last 10-15 years.

The actual stereo LP running time is (3:06) not (3:08) as stated on the record label.

Does anyone have beginning and ending fade points to match the 2:59 45?

Thanks to ed, I was able to recreate the fade. It's very quick, from 2:55-2:59.

Were there multiple pressings of the 45? The reason I ask,
this 45 posting on AnotherProf matches the 3:15 length I have on CD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXK1xVmRv8g |

According to a recent post on YouTube Anotherprof, this longer version is from
his Verve Sounds Of Fame reissue 45. The actual mono 45 is 2:59. |
