Ed thank you it is probably why I recall the Live version being played. Good memory!

The only reason I remember, was the night of the attack, my
wife was working late in midtown, and I worked downtown and
I had gotten home and was doing some painting on our new
home. I had the radio on while painting and WPLJ came on
during their news broadcast and said there was a shooting
on the LIRR. I was a little shaken by that as all would
know, there was no cell phones. Once they said it had
happened on a local train stopped at the Merillon Ave
Station in Garden City, I knew she wasn't on THAT train.
Very sad event..

Also, all proceeds from that live version were donated to the families of the
victims, which I thought was great. A mass shooting was so unheard of
back then.....

As said earlier, the live recording of "Hero" was also the music video version, taken from her heavily promoted Thanksgiving concert TV special on NBC.

Filmed long in advance of the holiday in mid-July, 1993, the standalone promo was sent out as promotion for the NBC special and the Live Version of "Hero" was included as Track 2 on its CD maxi-single release in the US.

The video for future Top 40 hit "Without You" was also taken from this special, but I don't believe the live audio was ever release domestically beyond the home video of the concert.
