This is a reach, since this is a 45 that didn't chart (at least at Billboard), but does anyone either have the 45 of Jefferson Starship's "Can't Find Love" (came out in the spring of 1983) or know the difference between the 45 and the LP (apparently the 45's about a minute shorter, unless the time on the label is wrong)? Need the song for a personal project and would prefer getting the 45 over the LP if possible.
Thanks! Edited by sriv94 |

10 years later, I'll bump this one too. I can't find any evidence of the minute shorter version outside of the labels for the 7" singles! I hope somebody has this or at least knows.

Thanks to Chuck I can now confirm that the single version IS an edit of the LP version.
The first thing to know is that the 45 dub I have runs about 0.55% SLOWER than the LP version from the first pressings of the Winds Of Change CD. I can't speak to other pressings. The second thing to know is that this is NOT an early fade. We'll nibble away approximately sixty seconds to get from the LP version to the single version. First, take out 0:08 to 0:15 (7 seconds)on the snare hit on "2," resulting in a new intro of about 9 seconds. On the newly shortened file, take out 0:10 to 0:24 (14.5 seconds), starting on the "4" downbeat (in the sung word, "love"). Then take out 2:48 to 3:03 (14.5 seconds) starting on the "1" downbeat to shorten the guitar solo. Take out 2:55 to 3:02 (7 seconds) starting on the "1" downbeat to skip the first part of the breakdown. Next, take out 3:23 to 3:30 (7 seconds) to shorten the repeats. Finally from what's left, remove 3:37 to 3:44 (7 seconds), removing a section I hadn't noticed that wouldn't have gone over well on the radio in 1982. :-) The resulting file, before deleting silence, runs approximately 3:51. With silence removed, it's 3:48 & 3/4... almost exactly what the record label said. (How often have single labels been right, I wonder?) I hope this helps someone! (This IS easier with a dub as your guide, but hopefully these instructions make it possible without.) |

Gene,
Would love to hear your recreation. I attempted the edit, as well, but want to make sure I got it correct. |
