The 45 and album versions are the same, running 3:55, plus or minus a fraction of a second for mastering speed differences. The fadeouts end at the same spot. But the 45 starts its fade much later, thus is a much faster fade.
The last vocals are "(laughter)... Feels so good... When I think of you... yeh-e-yeah". The album version begins fading on the downbeat ("1" beat if counting 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4) before the "yeh-e-yeah", and the 45 version begins fading a couple beats after that last vocal line is done. The 45 version (YouTube link) can be found on the 1986 German compilation CD High Life - Himmlische Tophits. And maybe elsewhere, I don't know. The album version (YouTube link) is of course on the Control album. Edited by mjb50 |

Hi Mike,
Interesting catch. Unfortunately, the German compilation wouldn't appear in the database due to being an import CD. I wonder if any other domestic CD's have the rapid fade? |

So, I checked Qobuz and I don't know how it pertains to any
CD release of the album. On Qobuz, The song on Control with a release date of February 4, 1986 has the rapid fade like the 45. The song on Control with the release date of January 1, 1986 has the earlier fade. |

I agree that the Control CD starts fading two beats before the "yeah-ee-eah" ad-lib, which is around 3:47. The YouTube video with the 45 playing starts fading on the beat just after this ad-lib, which is about 2 seconds later. I don't know if I'd necessarily call that "much later," but given the relatively quick fade on both the Control album and the 45, I suppose that argument could be made.
