The stereo CD and mono versions of "Just Seven Numbers" differ significantly near the end of the song. At 2:25 on the stereo CD versions, the lead vocals are mixed out, leaving no lead vocals during the dialing sequence. Lead vocals are not mixed out on the mono release as heard on Complete Motown Singles 1970. I don't have a 45 on this track but assuming the boxed set is correct then there would be a single/lp difference.
I also don't know if the DJ 45 was mono/stereo, or mono/mono. In 1970/1971 there were sometimes stereo mixes on DJ 45s that did not match the LP mix. |

Great catch, Bill! Yes, the mono commercial 45 does have Levi's lead vocals up to and during the dialing sequence. On my promo copy of the vinyl Four Tops Greatest Hits Vol. 2 LP, the stereo track does not have Levi singing during that same sequence.
