Can anyone give me information on the 4:19 version of "Get Away" by Bobby Brown that appears on the Bobby Brown Greatest Hits cd? The single version is listed in Whitburn as running 4:40 - Is this a distinct version or is it a 45 length?

Pat, does this 4:19 version have a really pumping, disco-style "house" beat, with heavy electric piano? I do have a 4:19 version that fits that description on one of the two promo CD singles. It's called MK Radio Mix, remixed by Marc Kinchen.

No, this 4:19 version sounds like an edit of the LP version and not a remix. Does anyone have the cassette single that can verify the true length of the 45 and whether the single is a remix or just an edit of the LP?

my cassingle for the song "get away" issued as mca 54511 contains, on the A-side, the "single edit with rap", which runs 4:36....this information should be noted in the db.....

Regarding Bobby Brown's "Get Away", I too am wondering about this "neither the 45 nor LP version" running 4:18-4:19 that has appeared frequently on CD. Could this have come from a promo single release that we simply haven't identified yet?

Plenty to chew on here, guys. Two different promo CD singles - one with 8 tracks, the other with 12 tracks, with sequential promo "stock" #'s, which to me always indicated that it was the label's original plan to issue two different promos:

-Bobby Brown--"Get Away" (MCA5P-2544)
1-Single Edit Without Rap (listed & actual 4:36)
2-Teddy's Radio Edit (listed & actual 4:52)
3-Teddy's Club Version (listed & actual 6:52)
4-Teddy's Tribal Club Version (listed 6:25; actual 6:24)
5-Acappella (listed 5:52; actual 5:53)
6-Percussapella (listed 6:29; actual 6:28)
7-Teddy's Dub (listed 6:29; actual 6:28)
8-Bonus Beats (listed 6:25; actual 6:24)

-Bobby Brown--"Get Away" (MCA5P-2545)
1-MK Radio Mix (listed & actual 4:21)
2-MK Extended (listed & actual 7:37)
3-MK Rough Neck Dub (listed 4:24; actual 4:23)
4-Shock-G Radio Edit (listed 4:48; actual 4:47)
5-Shock-G Club (listed 6:24; actual 6:23)
6-Shock-G Instrumental (listed & actual 4:48)
7-Shock-G Suite (listed 4:48; actual 4:47)
8-Chris Stokes Single Edit (listed 4:13; actual 4:12)
9-Chris Stokes Raw (listed & actual 4:05)
10-Chris Stokes Extended (listed 5:23; actual 5:22)
11-Chris Stokes Percussapella (listed & actual 5:12)
12-Chris Stokes Instrumental (listed 4:12; actual 4:11)

**deleted a possibility that Aaron pointed out an hour later had already been investigated.** Oddly, none of these 20 cuts includes the one Ed says is on his cassingle, the "Radio Edit With Rap".

Jim, the 4:19 version on CD is described as "an edit of the LP version," according to an earlier post, so I'm thinking it's not the MK Radio Mix. In any case, thanks very much for posting your promo CD details, sir!

Yes, thank you, Jim! Wow, I had no idea there were so many different mixes for "Get Away"! (A record number in the promo CD single era, perhaps?) Out of all of them, I only remember hearing the "Radio Edit with Rap" (a.k.a. the single version) and the "Single Edit Without Rap".

"Get Away" certainly wasn't one of Bobby Brown's stronger singles (it was his first solo hit to fall short of the Billboard Top 10) and the record label may have known this going in, so I suspect all these remixes were issued in hopes of radio station music directors finding at least one mix in the heap they liked enough for airplay?
