That CD of the 8,216 versions of "High School U.S.A" (hey, it sure seems like that many when you hear them all played back-to-back) was first issued in a two-volume LP on Legrand, same cover and all. Bob Dylan once played this version on XM's Theme Time Radio Hour. Need extra credit to get on Miss Landers' good side? Count the number of Tommy's mispronunciations in the whole collection! Nobody who attended Minneapolis' Roosevelt High School ever pronounced it "ROO-suh-velt." Methinks the academic sentiments expressed by Sam Cooke in "Wonderful World" had more of an impact on Mr. Facenda than did Tommy's own history and geography lessons.
In terms of commercially-available records, you've got to tip your hat to Terry Cashman, who's made something of a cottage industry out of "Willie, Mickey And The Duke (Talkin' Baseball)," a 1981 #28 AC hit. Borrowing the same template producer Frank Guida used for Tommy Facenda, Terry recorded customized versions for each major league team in 1982, beginning with one for the Philadelphia Philles. A baseball-shaped sticker for each custom version was slapped onto a generic title sleeve. This 1985 45 for the Minnesota Twins included not only the 1982 custom version, but the team's early-'60s "Win Twins!" theme, all gussied up in a new custom sleeve. (The "Talkin' Football" backside of the sleeve showed the University of Minnesota's gopher mascot next to a football helmet, touting then-head coach Lou Holtz' pep talk on the B-side, along with traditional and new renditions of the school's fight song. It's Higher High School U.S.A.! Rah!) Ever-changing team rosters have kept Terry busy updating "Talkin' Baseball" ever since, with newer digital versions available online. |

The album version of Lady Gaga's "You and I" runs 5:06, yet runs 4:05 on several database CDs. There are currently no comments explaining these length differences. I'm pretty sure the shorter 4:05 version was issued as a standalone digital single, which would thus make it the single version, but can anyone verify this for certain?

Todd, "You and I" was never issued as a standalone digital single in the U.S., only overseas, though it was issued as a maxi single called "You and I - The Remixes" here.
In one foreign country's iTunes (I don't know what country "LU" stands for), there is a 4:05 version on a two-track digital single that is called Radio Edit: http://itunes.apple.com/lu/album/you-and-i-single/id46829424 7 Edited by Brian W. |

The US radio edit, which was at least issued digitally to radio stations, runs 4:06.
