my commercial 45 for the little richard song 'rip it up'
issued as specialty 579 has re-verb throughout the song while the cd version on '18 greatest hits' (rhino 75899) is dry without any re-verb at all.....do any of the cds in the db contain the correct 45 version with re-verb? |

What impeccable timing, Ed! I'm back on the message board after a bit of a hiatus and Little Richard singles were among the first items on my slate to discuss!
I've been reading on other music forums that most Little Richard 45s were issued "dry" (without reverb), so it's interesting to learn that your commercial 45 copy of "Rip It Up" contains reverb. I can tell you right off the bat that the song is relatively dry with only a small amount of reverb on the following CDs: VA - Rock 'N' Roll Era - 1956 (Time-Life 2RNR-14) Little Richard - 22 Classic Cuts (UK import - Ace 195) However, "Rip It Up" does contain added reverb on this CD: Little Richard - The Georgia Peach (Specialty 7012) Although some of the other Top 40 hits on the latter disc appear to have more reverb compared to their 45 counterparts, it sounds like the correct 45 mix of "Rip It Up" may be on this CD, based on Ed's description of his commercial 45. The other database CDs containing this song will likely need to be examined on a case-by-case basis. |

paul....thx for the quick delivery of the little richard

I just listened to a dub of Ed's "Rip It Up" 45 and, yep, I agree... The reverb is noticeably heavier on the 45 than on the Georgia Peach CD. I'm wondering if some reverb was simply added to the dry mix for this CD release, as opposed to digging out the actual 45 master (assuming one still exists)?
