Hmmmm--it didn't come out quite right for me for some reason (the DJ edit seemed a little awkward, and neither edit timed out properly).

There must be another edit somewhere near the beginning or middle. Using my The Hits CD as a guide, making no edits until halfway through the keyboard solo times out to (3:40.65). (I have an unsophisticated editing program called WavePad, which actually does the job pretty well for freeware.) That would only leave nine seconds to get everything else (guitar solo and reprise of the "keep on rolling" vocals) for the commercial 45.

Unless the (3:49) version isn't (3:49). . . (a printed label time different from the actual length? Never happens!) :-)

After the second verse and chorus, there's an instrumental passage and then a repeat of the chorus before you get to the "keep on rolling" part. You have to take that out.

You're right--I forgot about the small instrumental break and reprise of the "if you're tired of the same old story" chorus. It would seem to me, though, that the edit would be made at a point somewhere within the second chorus, to provide a smooth transition to the "keep on rolling" part.

I've finally been able to confirm that the difference bewteen the 45 and LP versions of "In My Dreams" is not just length. For example, on the instrumental intros the point at which the keyboard comes in differs.
