According to the packaging on the New Edition's "All the Number Ones" CD, it contains the Sing Along Mix of "Cool It Now," which was allegedly the B-side of the 45. But Pat lists the song on that CD as the 45 version. Is it not really the Sing Along Mix on the CD, or is the 45 mislabeled, or do they run the same length and Pat just has it misidentified on the CD, or what?

in my analysis the so called "sing a long" mix is the same as the 45 version and runs 4:09...

Okay, but are you comping the two sides of the the actual 45 or just judging from the "Number Ones" CD?

no.........the a side of the 45 runs 4:09 length and the b side is listed as the "sing along version" and has a stated run time of 4:30......i just listened to the sing along mix and it has no vocals except for the chorus..........so it's kind of an instrumental, and maybe an early kareoke single........

Thanks, Ed. I always figured it was an instrumental, hence the title "Sing Along"... I think it's simply mistitled on the "Number Ones" CD.

I see that Pat DOES have the later re-issue of this song's original parent album, simply titled New Edition, on MCA MCAD-31028 listed in the on-line database already. However, I noticed that he's missing the original U.S. CD release from when the album first came out in 1984, on MCA MCAD-5515 (which matches the original vinyl LP & cassette). Because this was an early CD, all copies w/ the original "5515" no. were Japan-for-U.S. pressings. Page on Discogs, w/ photos: NEW EDITION - "New Edition" (original U.S. CD) I don't have this particular version myself, and it's pretty rare today. I managed to find two used copies currently listed on eBay, and remarkably, both are less than $10. Copy #1: NEW EDITION - "New Edition" (original U.S. CD) Copy #2: NEW EDITION - "New Edition" (original U.S. CD) Of course, in addition to "Cool it Now" (1984), New Edition also includes two other top 40 hits of theirs, "Mr. Telephone Man" (1985) and "Lost in Love" (also 1985), so MCA 5515 will eventually need to be added under all three titles...
