Using my trusty digital editing software, I recently attempted to extract the 45 version of Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lette's "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo (Doo Dat Dance) Part 1" from the 5:09 LP version on the Disco Attack various artist CD (Priority 53789). I quickly realized this couldn't be done because the 45 version starts cold while the LP version fades in at a later point compared to the 45. The database indicates that the 45 version can be found on one domestic CD, but that disc is inexplicably mastered in mono (the commercial 45 is actually in stereo!).

Does anyone know if the 45 version of "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo" exists in stereo somewhere on an import CD?

I was browsing www.allmusic.com and discovered a various artist import 2-CD set called The 70s Album, released on Castle Pulse. One of the discs contain "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo" and the website lists the track's run time at 3:41, which closely mirrors the actual 45 length.

Is anyone familiar with this 2-CD set who can tell me if the song is indeed the 45 version and in stereo? I'm particularly interested in this compilation because it also contains Lindisfarne's "Run for Home", another Top 40 hit I'm looking to acquire on CD.

For anyone interested... I took a chance and bought The 70s Album import 2-disc set and got mixed results. "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo" does appear in its 45 version form and in stereo. However, on this CD the song runs significantly faster and fades out several seconds sooner compared to its vinyl 45 counterpart. To my disappointment, the audio levels are also compressed. Meanwhile, Lindisfarne's "Run for Home" was mastered from a nice sounding tape source.

These CDs however do contain some welcome surprises though, such as "Brandy" by Scott English. Even though this version hardly made a dent the U.S., the cover by Barry Manilow re-titled "Mandy" of course later became a Billboard #1 smash! Other interesting "lost" international hits on these discs include Bonnie Tyler's "Lost in France" and The Korgis' "If I Had You".

Ed sent me a copy of the lone database CD appearance of the 45 version, which is mono as mentioned above.

Well, turns out the reason they folded it to mono was to hide the vinyl noises. This can be effective in masking light surface noise. If you listen close at :16 - :18 there are several loud clicks. There is quite a bit of groove distortion throughout.

To make it worse, they clipped of the first 1/2 second of the intro, and also faded it out abruptly about 2 secs too soon, likely to hide more noise.

Another reason you cannot extract the 45 from the LP version is that, like the other single from this album, the LP is a different mix and has additional "live crowd" overdubs added to it that were not in the 45.
