Pat, both my commercial 45 and both sides of my promo 45 have a listed time of (4:25), but an actual time of (4:28). I also have a promo CD single (PRCD2427A) for this, indicating (7" edit), that has both a listed and actual time of (3:56). I will soon be shooting out an mp3 of the (3:56) promo version to you, Pat, so you can determine the difference between this version and the stock 45/LP Versions.

I didn't have to listen very long to determine that the vocals on the vinyl 45 begin at :23 while the vocals on your promo cd single begin at :12 so the promo cd single is not the 45 version.

It might also be worth mentioning that the album version cannot be edited to exactly match the 45 version due to at least one brief vocal overdub and some percussive overdubs at the end of the song.

Can the DJ edit be made by shortening the intro to one vamp (which is the way I remember it on the radio) & fading early?

In addition to the promo CD that Jim detailed above, there was another promo, which is likely the first issue, and I recently obtained a copy:

PRCD2724 (there's no "A" at the end of the catalog number on this one)
1. Remix (listed & actual 4:30)
2. LP Version (listed & actual 6:53)
3. Extended 12" Remix (listed & actual 10:05)

Track 1 sounds like the US 45 version (although I didn't do a direct comparison), which was edited to 3:56 for the second issued promo CD.

If someone has time, could they post editing instructions to recreate the 3:56 promo edit from the 4:28 45 version?
