My commercial 45, which is mono and confirmed as WB 7322, has a listed time of (2:44), but an actual time of (2:48).

Well, I thought I would get my feet wet here. My white label promo LP WB 1825, has a listed time of (2:44), and an actual time of (2:49.3). No surprise there. My white label promo copy 45 says 'Stereo' on the label and has a listed time of (2:44) and has an actual time of (2:47.3). No surprise there, except it is a completely different mix than the stereo LP/CD. Piano cranked up. This gospel recording may have only hit #28 on Billboard, but peaked at #11 on the WLS (Chicago) survey! I also miss Jim Abbott for his 'timely' posts. -Bill.

Curiously, does your 45 play in stereo? If so, it's gotta
be one of the earliest stereo WB 45s. My copy, which is also a promo is mono. |

Indeed. The label says stereo and in the run-out wax it says, "M 51639 S -1A stereo". I have an idea what prompted Warner Bros. to release this the way it is, but I don't want to look like an idiot on my first post!

Welcome Bill. So LP mix would be the note for the two stereo entries in the database?

Well, in spite of its charting in the
lower 20s, I'm kind of surprised it has only shown up on two domestic releases. If Warner still has the tape for the stereo promo single version, it might make a good inclusion on a future ERIC cd. |

Live in stereo.

O.K. Here are the facts. My record store first received this 45 on 9/5/1969. Mono only. On 9/15/69 it debuted on the WLS survey, and 9/20/69 on Billboard. The WEA rep said there would likely not be an LP. Here's my supposition. Due to the growing listenership of FM stereo radio stations in Chicago in the fall of '69, they wanted a stereo recording. Warners told some engineer to pull the multi-tracks and make up a stereo single for radio only. If you were to listen to this promo, you can hear the opening guitar in the right channel and it is panned to the center before the vocal starts. The dobro starts in the center and is quickly panned to the right. The background vocals that are slightly right on the LP, are spread evenly left to right. I don't recall the release date of the LP, but I was told it was released after Christmas 1969. I don't have the mono stock single in order to listen if it is a fold-down of the promo, or fold-down of the LP, or neither.

I'll continue. The dobro starts in the center and is panned to the right. The background singers are spread evenly left to right as opposed to the LP where they are all right of center. I was told the LP wasn't released until after Christmas 1969. By that time the single had it's run. I don't have the mono single to determine if it is a fold-down of the stereo promo, stereo LP, or neither. -Bill.
