Can't find anything on this one, so...

It seems the opening 0:26 are unique to the 45 and can't be extracted from
the long LP version. I have a stereo 45 that was sent to me years ago, and I
have no idea how the beginning was reconstructed. The 45 version has only
ever been issued in mono or "e". Anyone have any info on this one?

Great catch, David! Looked at the label of the promo 45
over at 45cat and it appears to be mono/mono.

Is that stereo 45 a Motown Yesteryear issue or original Rare Earth 45? There was an edit floating around years ago that tacked the mono intro onto a stereo edit from the LP, but it was missing many overdubs that were added to the 45. Is that how this stereo 45 sounds? I never found that edit on vinyl.

Bill,

Sorry, I should've written "stereo 45 version", as it wasn't an actual 45, rather a
track on a burned CD.

After reading your post about a stereo version missing many overdubs, I
decided to a/b this version with the mono 45 and yes, it is missing overdubs,
so, even though the beginning is stereo on this version, is is NOT a stereo 45
version.

I have that version on a burned CD "Fix The Mix, Vol. 4", and I can't recall how I
came about this CD.

Heh..I've been doing a MARCIA BRADY (Cause the song came
out when The Brady Bunch were starting their early
seasons)..movie maker, and thought it would be fun to
use a more harder soing like it, and am recreating, or
making, a "stero album: style single edit..(I've done it
many times...also with a bridge(s) video of Joel;' PINAO
MAN. But then THAT CAN be recreated to sound loike a
stero edit LOL.
You know you're really older when you think that younger singer Jesse McCartney's related in anyway to former Beatle Paul McCartney.

Hi David!
LOL You came about "Fix The Mix Vol 4" from me. Wow, it's
been almost 20 years now! How did that happen? "Fix The
Mix" was my old series of CDR's I would share with
friends who were into rare stereo. David I can't recall
how we met! BSN? Oh...failing memory.
Oh and the name I chose for those CDR's caused my friend
Andy to give me the nickname "Mix Fixer"...so now you
know where that came from.

Ok...back to the point. David that file on the disc came
from a friend, it's the file that Bill mentioned above.
It was the mono 45 intro tacked onto an edit of the LP
version to create a sort-of stereo 45 edit. I just
tinkered with it to make the mono intro sound "stereo". I
never compared it to a 45 so I never knew there were
other mix differences after the intro.

Now, speed up to about 3 years ago. A friend sent me a 45
dub of this from overseas. It is the Holland stock 45 for
this and it is true stereo. It has the unique 45 intro,
in true stereo. Until now I never compared it to the
"album edit" described above but at a quick listen, the
import 45 has an electric piano in the first verse that
is not in the LP mix.
I'll send you over this 45 dub. Do me a favor and compare
further and let us know is this indeed the U.S. 45 mix
but in stereo.

Begs the question, if they made this mix in stereo to
begin with, why didn't they put it on the U.S. promo 45?
Very strange!
MM

Thanks for chiming in, MM. Yes, you indeed sent me those "Fix The Mixes" all
those years ago. My memory fails how we met, but it was likely over a
common interest in stereo, as I too have been a part of BSN since the
newsletter days.

The Holland stereo 45 is the same edit and contains the keyboard overdubs
present in the US 45. GREAT to have!

Which begs the question Mark...Will we ever see your stereo 45 version on an Eric cd release? While I am inquiring about potential future 45 version releases how about the Theme From Shaft 45 version by Isaac Hayes on an Eric cd?

An Eric CD of all first time stereo 45 versions from the
early 70s? I love it!
